WHO says waste not only be beneficial goods and end up in the garbage? With expertise and creativity, the waste can become an alternative energy for household use.
Ervinda is Sarah, a student of Institut Teknologi Bandung of 2008 that initiated the birth of the idea. Sarah, through environmental projects included in the Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) gave birth to an innovation that projecting to help people find alternative energy sources through processing of wood waste by using a bioreactor system in the village of deer Pananjung, Garut, West Java.
"The initial goal I wanted to create something beneficial for the environment and want to provide service to the community," he told reporters after accepting the award Bayer Young Environmental Envoy at the Hotel Intercontinental, Jakarta, Friday (15/09/2011).
the village community, she continued, many use the wood as a tool for cooking. Under these conditions, the area becomes prone to landslides because of the high action logging.
When visiting there, she saw that a lot of organic waste and waste animal waste that can be used as an alternative energy source. Sarah really did not have any knowledge of chemical engineering and then did some research and identify potential sources of gas from the waste. After that, she put the household scale bioreactors and conduct training on biogas for residents.
"The capacity of the bioreactor for 1 cubic meter and can be used to cook for 1.5 hours. I hope to existence of these tools so the community can reduce the felling of trees and switch to the bioreactor as an alternative source of cooking, "said 20-year-old girl ended.
